Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of the terms

To synchronize, publish, and use other account features, explicitly accept these terms in the app. Margent records the date, version, language, and fingerprint of the document. Signing in does not automatically record acceptance. The Privacy Policy explains data processing. Email updates, profile search, and the Circle directory require separate optional choices.

Before accepting, you can export your data, delete your account, or sign out. The local library remains available without an account and without sending entries to the server.

2. What Margent is

Margent helps you save thoughts, quotes, and notes, organize a private library, and return to saved material. Core features work locally. An account is required for synchronization, server-side export, account deletion, and profile-related features.

A Circle can be private, request-to-join, or open. The owner chooses its access mode. Only circles deliberately made open or request-to-join appear in the directory. Your private library is never published automatically.

Profile search and the Circle directory require separate voluntary consents. Their scope, recipients, and withdrawal rules are described on the Profile search and Circle directory page.

Inside a Circle, you can reply to a shared thought with your own thought, mark it as Resonated, or save a private copy to your library. You may delete your reply, report another person’s material, or block another user.

3. Account

Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to the email address you enter. You are responsible for access to your device and mailbox. Margent does not ask for your mailbox password.

Do not share sign-in codes. If you suspect unauthorized access, sign out through the profile and contact support.

4. Optional email

You may separately consent to receive Margent news and materials by email. This consent is not required to sign in or use the app, is never enabled automatically, and can be withdrawn in settings or through an unsubscribe link. Messages containing sign-in codes you request are service emails and do not depend on marketing preferences.

5. User content and copyright

Your material

You retain rights in notes, comments, and other original material you create. Margent does not acquire ownership or exclusive rights in that content.

Quotes and excerpts from third-party works

The user who posts a quote, text, comment, or other material is independently responsible for its content, the lawfulness of posting it and sharing it with selected recipients, and compliance with third-party copyright, related rights, and other rights, to the extent established by applicable law. Before posting, the user must ensure that they have the necessary rights, permission from the rights holder, or another lawful basis for the intended use.

When publishing a quote created by someone else or sharing it with other users, including in a Circle, you must accurately name the author (their name or published pseudonym) and identify the source so that the work or original publication can be located. Posting without this information, or with knowingly false attribution, violates the Margent rules; the user who posts the material is responsible for that posting and its consequences to the extent established by applicable law. If the author or source has not been established, do not publish the quote in Circles. When saving a copy or sharing it again, do not remove or misrepresent existing author and source information. Attribution alone does not replace any necessary permission or another lawful basis for use.

Rights in excerpts from books, articles, and other works remain with their authors and other rights holders. Saving text in Margent does not transfer those rights to you, and labeling something a quote does not by itself make every use lawful.

By adding or sharing material, you confirm that you have the right to do so: you created it, obtained permission, or the use is allowed by law. Subject to its requirements, Russian law permits, among other things, reproduction of a lawfully published work for personal purposes under Article 1273 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation and quotation from lawfully published works for scientific, polemical, critical, informational or educational purposes, or to reveal the author’s creative intent, to the extent justified by the purpose and with the author and source identified, under Article 1274.

Technical permission for Margent

To operate features you choose, you grant Margent a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store, process, create necessary technical copies of, synchronize, and display content only to you and recipients you select. This permission lasts while the content remains in the service and does not allow Margent to use it for advertising, sale, or independent publication. Your private library is not published automatically.

This permission applies worldwide, solely to the extent of the rights that you are entitled to grant. It covers material you add to the service and the uses described above. You do not grant Margent rights that you do not hold.

When you publish material in a Circle, you permit its members to use Margent's private-copy feature within the limits of lawful use. Such copies may remain after the original publication is withdrawn. This does not authorize further public distribution of another person's work. A substantiated rights-holder notice may require additional restrictions on access to copies.

6. Rights-holder notices

A rights holder or authorized representative may report suspected infringement to hello@tuaev-dev.ru. The notice should include:

• the claimant’s name or entity and a contact for response;
• the work or other protected subject matter and the basis of the claimant’s authority;
• available evidence of rights or authority, such as information about authorship and the original publication, an agreement, a license, or a representative’s authorization;
• information sufficient to locate the disputed material in Margent;
• a description of the infringement and requested action;
• confirmation that the notice is submitted in good faith and that its information is accurate.

Margent may restrict access to or delete a user’s entry in response to a substantiated notice from a rights holder or an authorized representative. We assess the information about the claimant’s rights, the disputed material and the alleged infringement, together with any permission or other lawful basis for use. Evidence is considered as a whole; a copyright registration certificate is not the only acceptable form of evidence.

A rights holder’s request does not itself override uses permitted by law, including lawful quotation.

Where there are sufficiently substantiated indications of infringement, Margent may temporarily restrict access while reviewing the matter. If infringement is established, we promptly take necessary and sufficient measures to stop it, including restricting access to or deleting material. Measures may cover related publications and copies accessible to the service to the extent required by the circumstances and the law. Requests for additional information do not postpone action required by law.

Where legally permitted, we inform the user of the reason for a restriction. The user may provide explanations and evidence of a lawful basis for use; if a decision was mistaken or its grounds no longer apply, we consider restoring access. This procedure takes into account Article 1253.1 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation on intermediary liability and does not replace mandatory requirements of applicable law.

For repeated confirmed copyright infringements, we consider restricting publication or terminating account access in appropriate circumstances. The number of unsubstantiated complaints alone does not automatically justify a ban. You may challenge a decision by sending explanations and supporting evidence to support.

7. Prohibited use

You may not use Margent for:

• unlawful activity, threats, harassment, stalking, or spam;
• infringement of copyright, privacy, or other rights;
• sharing complete works or substantial excerpts without a lawful basis;
• distributing defamation, unlawfully obtained personal data, or prohibited information;
• accessing another person’s account, data, or infrastructure;
• bypassing restrictions, large-scale automation, or attacks on the app or API;
• transmitting malicious material or abusing reporting mechanisms.

8. Service availability

We work to keep Margent available, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or compatibility with every device. TestFlight, the Android Beta APK, and other test builds may be unstable and may use a testing environment.

9. Margent does not replace professional advice

Margent is not a medical, psychological, legal, financial, or crisis service. Saved and returned material does not replace help from a qualified professional.

10. Access restrictions

Access to content, an account, or a feature may be restricted when these terms are violated, a sufficiently substantiated rights complaint is received, there is a security threat or abuse, the law requires it, or the service is discontinued. A restriction is limited in scope and duration to what is reasonably necessary to address the cause. Where possible and lawful, we explain the reason and allow the user to respond. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time.

For violations of the content rules, including missing author or source information for a quote created by someone else, Margent may warn the user, require a correction, restrict access to the material or remove it. For serious or repeated violations, Margent may temporarily or permanently block the profile (account) and, where necessary, terminate service and delete the account to the extent permitted by law. Measures take into account the nature, consequences and recurrence of the violation. Reasons and challenges are handled under section 6; an unsubstantiated complaint alone does not establish that the user is at fault.

11. Export and deletion

You can download a copy of server-side data in settings. You can also delete the account there after two confirmations. See the separate instructions.

12. Rights in Margent

Rights in the Margent app, brand, design, code, documentation, and service elements belong to Oleg Aleksandrovich Tuaev unless stated otherwise. These terms do not transfer rights in the brand or software code to you.

13. Liability

Margent is provided “as is” to the extent permitted by applicable law. We do not exclude consumer rights or liability that cannot be limited by agreement. You are responsible for backing up important local material and for decisions made on the basis of saved content.

You decide what content to save and whom to share it with, and you are responsible to third parties for your actions and material, including having rights or another lawful basis, correctly naming the author and source, respecting privacy, and avoiding defamation and prohibited information.

Margent provides technical tools for storage, synchronization, and sharing; it is not the author of user content, does not endorse it, and ordinarily does not review a private library before material is added. To the extent permitted by law, Margent is not liable for an infringement caused solely by user content or actions where we did not know and should not have known of the unlawfulness and, after receiving a sufficiently substantiated notice, promptly took necessary and proportionate action.

Deleting material from Margent cannot remove screenshots or copies recipients made outside the service, so share material with care.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Russian Federation unless mandatory rules in your country require otherwise. Mandatory consumer rights remain in force. Before going to court, the parties will try to resolve the issue through support.

15. Changes and contact
